The issuance of this resolution is a huge shift in Dubai's business landscape, allowing free zone establishments to operate outside their designated zones, which means these companies can now operate within mainland Dubai.
This move aims to enhance economic integration and provide businesses with greater flexibility and market access. The resolution aligns with Dubai's goal to double its economy by 2033.
Through the resolution, free-zone companies have three options for their business expansion:
1. Establishing a branch of the company in the mainland.
2. Establishing a branch of the company within the Free Zone they are set up with and number
3. Through issuance of a permit allowing the company to conduct certain activities within Dubai.
Businesses operating outside their free zones must maintain separate financial records for these activities, to ensure transparency and compliance with local regulations.
Finally, to wrap up the key takeaways, the DET, that is the Department of Economy and Tourism, will collect 10,000 dirhams, for issuing a license for establishing a branch of the company within the Free Zone, as well as for each renewal.
Similarly, a fee of 5,000 dirhams would applicable if a permit is issued to carry out certain activities on the mainland, as well as for each renewal.
